Attributed to André-Charles Boulle (1642-1732)

oak veneered with marquetry of brass on tortoiseshell, banded with ebony; gilt-bronze mounts

The gilt-bronze masks on the drawers, table ends and legs are all of models firmly attributed to Boulle and a closely related drawing attributed to him is in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs; the table may date from 1710-15

PROVENANCE possibly bought by the 5th Duke of Buccleuch from E. H. Baldock in 1832 or 1835
