Bronze attributed to Hubert Le Sueur (fl 1610-43)

King Henry IV (1553-1610) is shown in plain contemporary armour, bare-headed but for a wreath of oak leaves. The cross with the dove of the Order of St Esprit appears below the sash at the base of the bust. A late eighteenth-century inventory of the contents of Montagu House, Whitehall mentions the bust as 'By John of Bologna Genry 4th of France' valued at £25.
