The clock case signed by Jacques Caffiéri (1678-1755), the
movement signed by Balthazar Martinot. The clock case of gilt-bronze,
the pedestal of oak, veneered with ebony and mounted with
gilt-bronze.

The clock, dating from c. 1740, has been associated with a Louis
XVI pedestal, possibly in the early nineteenth century.
Acquired by the 5th Duke of Buccleuch from Garrard's in January 1830.
