High Pavilion Ante Room

The High Pavilion Ante Room contains an interesting and varied series of important portraits, including two of Edward, 1st. Lord of Montagu and one of Sir Thomas Tresham of Rushton dated 1568. Other portraits include the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria by Van Mytens the younger, the architect Wenceslaus Hollar by Sébastien Bourdon as seen right, and Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor from the School of Titian. There are also depictions of a surgeon and his wife by Frans Pourbous.

Displayed within the room is a
tortoiseshell and brass inlaid cabinet attributed to André-Charles Boulle, c.1700, as seen left.

Also in the room are a pair of dwarf cabinets by Etienne Levasseur.

The room is home to the only chandelier in the house, which is English, c.1750. The glass candleholders, c.1690, are ensuite with those in the adjoining High Pavilion Bedroom.
