Pier table

The table's rectangular frame, carved with a feather-plumed 'Indian' head, is framed by an assymetrical cartouche of scrolled acanthus foliage in the Louis XV manner, the serpentined legs carved with a scallop-shell on pearled acanthus foliage and terminating in scrolled feet embellished with foliate satyr masks. Attributed to Matthias Lock (d. 1765), carver of Castle Street, Long Acre and author of drawing books of ornaments in the 1740s and early 1750s.
