Clock and pedestal

The clock of c. 1715, but with a replacement English movement by Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy (1780 - 1854) oak veneered with marquetry of brass on tortoiseshell; gilt-bronze mounts 124 x 67.5 x 30 cm (clock); 129 x 66.3 x 30.5 cm (pedestal).

The pedestal has been extensively altered in the early nineteenth century, but incorporating elements, such as the plinth and lion-paw feet, attributable to André-Charles Boulle (1642 - 1732); the feet stamped with the crowned C mark, in use 1745-9. The pedestal has been raised on an extra, nineteenth-century plinth.
