Attributed to André-Charles Boulle (1642 - 1732)

Oak veneered with marquetry of brass and pewter on tortoiseshell, banded with ebony; gilt-bronze mounts; replacement spring-driven movement by William Allan, 222.6 x 37.7 x 20.7 cm

The clock is a variant, dating from cl 1690-5, of a long-case clock delivered to Louis XIV c. 1685, with a different case at the top based on the bracket clock known as the pendule à Parques. The original movement was probably weight-driven.

PROVENANCE acquired by the 1st Duke of Montagu, whose cypher is on the case.
