Fifth State Room

The Fifth Stateroom differs from the others with its plain, boarded floor. It was originally to form part of a staircase leading to the upper suite the East Pavilion, the closed door to which is visible on the North wall. Unusually the fireplace is in the corner of the room.

The marble chimney piece was supplied by Thomas Drew in about 1707 for this room. Drew charged £1.10s. for polishing, glazing and lining the chimney piece. In the same year Thomas Green was paid for the 'Covered' [sic, i.e., coved] ceiling.

The ceiling portraying
'Cehpalus and Aurora' is possibly by Louis Cheron's son.

The large French tapestry is again from the Gombaut and Macee series with the two protagonists absorbed in a game of croquet or golf.
