Oak veneered with marquetry of pewter on brass, banded with ebony inlaid with mother-of-pearl; carved and gilded legs; gilt-bronze mounts. 88.5 x 89 x 55.3cm.
The bureau was attributed to Pierre Gole in 1980 and tentatively identified with one delivered to Louis XIV in 1672.
By tradition given by Louis XIV to the 1st Duke of Montagu between 1666 and 1678.
