Boughton Estate Open Days

Heritage Education TrustFor nearly thirty years, the Buccleuch Living Heritage Trust (previously The Living Landscape Trust), on behalf of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry has offered the schools in and around Northamptonshire the opportunity to visit his Estate at Boughton House near Kettering. We will be continuing to offer this important educational event, which gives the students the opportunity to view and understand the vital work that is undertaken on a traditional, but modern run rural Estate and will follow a similar format to previous years. They provide a unique educational opportunity for children to view and study all aspects of the operation - farming, forestry, game keeping, landscape conservation, wildlife and maintenance and to discuss current issues regarding the sustainability of the countryside, in general with the men and women who actually live and work there.

Boughton Estate Open Day – Tuesday 10th May 2011

This year, we will also be transforming the second day into one focused on culture and heritage as showing some of the interests, hobbies and sporting activities enjoyed by past generations at houses such as Boughton and how these leisure and pleasure pastimes have contributed to the cultural heritage of the nation and are still relevant to current generations. As a cultural focus to the day, Boughton House will be open and will be an integral activity for children.

Boughton Cultural Open Day -Wednesday, 11th May 2011

I do hope that you will be interested in taking up this invitation for your school to this special and unique educational experience and I shall be grateful if you could register your interest as soon as possible. This should be done initially by contacting the Buccleuch Living Heritage Trust (previously The Living Landscape Trust) office.

Working!

We are accepting bookings for the Estate Open Day now and would ask if you would like to come on the Cultural Open Day you register your interest at this time as numbers will be far more limited.

It is considered important that at least one teacher from each school attends our teachers briefing session. This will be held in the Stable Block at Boughton House on Tuesday 5th April at 4.30pm and will last about 1.5 hours.
